Obituary
Miguel Angel Irizarry Martinez

To our family and friends….

Our beloved Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, and Great-Great Grandfather, Miguel Angel Irizarry Martinez, passed away on Sunday, March 7, 2021. He is and was known as the Rock of the Irizarrys, because he planted a strong foundation for all of his family to stand on. That foundation is God the Father, the Lord Jesus Christ, love for the family, and to cherish the thoughts of the heart. He was strong; yet meek and mild. He was courageous, yet always presented a smile.

This beloved man was born on September 2, 1929 in San German, Puerto Rico. There he met his beloved wife, Elsie, whom recently passed to be with our Lord on December 27, 2019. They were wedded for sixty-eight years.

This beloved man and his beloved wife had two children, Milagros and Israel, while living in Puerto Rico. In 1954 he moved to the Bronx where his other children Angel, Alice and Mary were born.

While in NYC this beloved man, bilingual in Spanish and English, became a chef while his wife mentored and took care of their children at home. Together, this couple was unstoppable and lived the American Dream. In the later years, this beloved man retired and spent the remaining years of his life with his wife.

Together, he and his wife loved spending time with the family. He also enjoyed the New York Yankees and loved seeing ball games in person. He loved gardening, fishing, cooking and going to his home in Puerto Rico to take care of his other home and property.

But we the family loved him most for loving his family and sacrificing all that he had to ensure his family-his children - had a bright future; leading through his expressed guidance and principles.

I, Milagros, the eldest, remember my father telling me a story of how when I was 2 years old in Puerto Rico, I went under the house to gather the eggs that the hens laid and was chased by them. I never broke a single egg while carrying them on my dress.

His son Angel, remembers the strength of his father and tells the story about the time when his car was stuck in a pot hole and how his father exited and went to the rear of the car and lifted it up out of the pot hole.

His daughter, Alice, quoted him as being the “Rock, and the Last of the Mohicans.” Alice also remembers his time at her home and expressed how peaceful and at home he felt in the garden. Even though these are only a few of the stories, there are many more that all family and friends alike can express.

Our father’s enduring message to family and friends is to work hard, love one another, respect each other, fear God and be strong and loving as a family in this life and in the future eternal life with our heavenly Father and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ

He will be truly missed but his family rejoices that he is now with his Lord Jesus Christ and his beloved wife, Elsie, singing to her for eternity, “Besame Mucho”

The wake will be held on Friday, March 19 from 3:00 pm -7:30 pm at:
