Obituary for Patria Martinez

Patria Martinez was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republican in March of 1938 to Maria Liria and Armando Rosario. She immigrated to the United States in 1964 where she later married Juan Martinez.

Patria was a dedicated mother far and foremost. She believed that providing her children with a good education was the most important thing she could give them. She also thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, which she spoiled every chance she got.

She was a skilled hair stylist for many years and came to have her own shop on Melrose Avenue in the Bronx in the 1970’s. She loved interior design and getting together with friends to play Bingo.

Her friends and neighbors have described her as someone who always had a smile and kind word to share. “She would ask how you were and then attentively listen for the answer. She will be missed.”

Patria was the loving wife of Juan Martinez, devoted mother of Celeste Martinez and Juan Manuel Martinez, kind mother-in-law of Jeannie Serrano, doting grandmother of Chelsea Martinez, Juan Manuel Martinez, Jr. and Cynthia Wheeler, and affectionate great-grandmother of Marcus Bethesda, Jr.
