Obituary for Ralph Lewellyn Carr

Ralph Lewellyn Carr was born to Sylvia Agatha Young and Leonard Carr in
Belize on the 25th day of October 1932. At an early age Ralph was a friendly
and ambitious person who attended School, did his chores and liked
basketball. He grew up in the small village of Gracie Rock but moved to
Belize City as a young boy where he was raised at Zeitown Street by his
parents. He was helpful around the house and liked working with his hands.
As a young boy he attended St John’s College in Belize City from 1948 to
1953 and majored in Public Relations. After college he found a job with the
Belize Fire Service and was stationed at the then Belize International Airport
in Ladyville. In the 1960’s he met Gilda Carter and they later bore his only
son, Douglas.
In the mass migration of Belizeans to America in the Sixties, Ralph migrated
to New York in 1970 in search for a better life. He lived in Staten Island,
Mount Vernon, and later settled in the Bronx. In 1972 he completed a
certificate program in Building Maintenance at the Manhattan Trade School.
In 1974 Ralph got a job as a warehouse worker with Premier Metal Products
Company in New York and remained with them until he retired in the late
1980’s. During this time, he met and fell in love with Claudette Marion
Aspinall who he later married and together raised Allison and Lisa in their
apartment in the Bronx. They lived together until Marion passed away in
1998.
Ralph lived a full life, filled with friends, family and fun times. He enjoyed
socializing with his friends, having a good meal and he loved to dance. He
had elevated to the rank of Mason during his membership in the Epiphany
Lodge #121 in Brooklyn. He was stern in some ways and taught his children
the values passed to him from his parents. He worshipped regularly and
belonged to the Anglican faith.
Ralph transitioned peacefully at his home in the presence of family on
November 27th, 2022 at the age of 90.
He is survived by his son Douglas Carr, his two daughters Allison and Lisa
Aspinall, one daughter-in-law, Catherine Ferguson, his grandchildren: Taylor
Talley, Diedra Carr, Douglas Carr Jr, Kennedy Aspinall Morgan, Caden Carr
and Taegan Carr. He is also survived by his uncle Terrence Clarke, aunt Jane
Vaughn, several nieces, nephews and cousins, most notable his niece, Dana
Theus Smith and a host of friends. He is predeceased by his wife, Claudette
Marion Aspinall Carr, and his older brother, Herman Theus.
