Susan was my moms roommate at the rehabilitation center they were in . Covid happened and there were no visitors allowed. Susan was my moms friend and my lifeline to her . My mom had advanced dementia and couldn’t advocate for herself . After my mom passed from the virus Susan was stuck there for months.. and we remained in close contact . I brought her stationery so she could write letters to all her friends.. and flowers and food to make her smile. I am deeply saddened at the loss of such a caring individual. May she rest in peace .

I met Susan for the first time about 20 years ago when she was visiting friends of mine in London.

What an amazing woman! Funny, intelligent and kind. Once seen never forgotten with her bright red cropped hair and bright red lipstick!

I continued to see her when she came to the UK to visit my friends. We shared many glasses of fizz and many laughs over the years.

God bless you Susan you will be missed but never forgotten.... fly free now.

Susan Barber was probably best known to many for her successful role in the travel industry as a sales and marketing consultant for some of the world’s finest hotels. Utilising her impressive educational achievements Susan was fluent in French, Spanish and Italian and therefore not surprisingly she spent much of her time in Europe.

Susan had a passion for the Arts, music, theatre, films, literature and travel. Susan had an incredible zest for life, she was kind hearted and naturally endearing and had a very positive outlook on everything and she loved meeting people.

I first met Susan in New York in the summer of 1984. I was making a travel feature on NYC for the BBC and the publicity director for New York Tourism said to me “There is somebody you just have to meet, Susan Barber is great she will probably end up being your friend for life”…… How true those words were. I am so thankful for that introduction and the opportunity to have had Susan as a dear friend for life.

Susan had a natural ability to work a room and get to know everybody and I am certain that there will be people in all corners of the world that will be sad when they eventually learn of her passing. Susan had especially strong connections and friends in both Italy and France, two countries she adored visiting.

Susan spent much of her time travelling on planes and exploring different countries and cultures and it was always entertaining to hear the latest stories of her adventures. Although we lived thousands of miles apart, over the years we built a wonderful friendship. Susan would visit us in London or Brighton on her trips to Europe and I would always enjoy meeting up with her each summer in New York. Once she had conquered how to work the internet, letters and phone calls were swapped for emails and this meant we spoke nearly every couple of weeks to catch up.

Susan had an infectious personality and brought a great deal of fun, joy and happiness to my life through her boundless sense of adventure and her engaging sense of humour. She was also very interested in politics and global affairs and we spent many evenings discussing and trying to figure out some of the world’s problems. I will miss our trips to the movies, theatre’s and all the laughter over dinner, I will miss her smile and our crazy conversations.

I know that Susan took great comfort in the kindness shown to her by her church and friends in Dallas, New York, France and Italy.

Sleep well Susan, I will miss you so much, Rest In Peace
