Vincent Joseph Durso, age 76, of Hastings-on-Hudson, passed away on May 3, 2022, after a
long and valiant battle with pancreatic cancer.
Vinnie was loved by all who knew him. While many recognized his fine qualities, all were
touched by his unwavering integrity, kindness, and goodness.
Vinnie was born on April 12, 1946 to Dominick and Mary Durso in Manhattan. After graduating
from Bishop Dubois High School, he joined the National Guard and then the New York City
Police Department because he "wanted to make people feel safe." After an assignment in the
Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA), he wanted to become part of the judicial system, so he
attended the New York State Court Officer Academy kicking off a long, illustrious and storied
career in the New York State Court System.
Vinnie spent more than 30 years in the Court System and held a variety of posts including
Supreme Court Officer where he also served as the President of the Supreme Court Officers
Union. He was promoted from Senior Court Clerk and to Principal Court Clerk before retiring
as the Assistant Deputy Chief Clerk of Bronx Housing Court. He was elected Treasurer of the
NYS Court Clerk’s Association and also served as a legislative representative where he
championed and achieved many benefits which helped the entire membership. Throughout his
career, he was honored with numerous awards which he humbly accepted.
As proud as Vinnie was of his career, he was most proud of his family. He married Nancy
Ringen, and in 1970, they welcomed his favorite son, Edmund, and a few years later his favorite
daughter, Maria. In 1987, he married Rose Morales, and had 30 years of wedded bliss with Rose
always telling him he was #1. In 2004, Edmund married favorite daughter-in-law, Inetta
Clemons. They welcomed their son, Hawken, into the world in 2005, who immediately stole
Poppa's heart. Hawken was his pride and joy. Poppa's face would light up at the sound of
Hawken’s voice and their time together was an unbreakable bond the entire family will always
cherish. In 2019, he married Rhonda Homes, and their puppy love was adored by everyone who
had the pleasure of seeing them dote on each other. They were kissing and holding hands to the
end.
After retiring in 2003, Vinnie and Rose purchased their dream house in Lake Ariel,
Pennsylvania. "Vinnie Pots and Pans” loved cooking, and would cook five different meals when
family and friends gathered together to make sure everyone had their favorite dish. Vinnie also
enjoyed winemaking, golfing, traveling and being with his friends and family. He loved doting
on Rhonda and spending time doing crosswords together, and most recently Wordle. Her love
and devotion carried him through his hard fought battle. He was so proud of his children and
grandson, and enjoyed nothing more than hearing about their day.
Vinnie was predeceased by his parents Dominick and Mary, his sister Elissa, and his wife Rose.
He is survived by his wife, Rhonda, his brother, Dominick, his son, Edmund and wife Inetta, his
daughter, Maria, and his grandson Hawken.
The Victorious V I N has left this world a much better place. He was loving and dignified until
the end. He loved and cherished everyone in his life, and he fought an inspiring record
breaking nine year battle with pancreatic cancer because he loved you all so much.
